The Nasdaq Composite punched an intraday record Tuesday as Alphabet led and oil eased on fresh Middle East diplomacy talk — building on Monday’s AI-fueled record close.
Monday’s close (HDFC Sky / Star / market wraps): Dow 52,049.72 (+0.71%), S&P 500 7,764.76 (+1.49%), Nasdaq 27,122.09 (+2.26%, record close). AMD jumped roughly 10% and crossed a $1 trillion market-cap milestone for the first time in that reporting; Intel and Arm surged; the PHLX Semiconductor Index rose about 4.3%. WTI settled near $95.43 (−4.86%), Brent near $100.11 (−3.62%); the 10-year yield hovered around 4.95%.
A Reuters mid-morning snapshot around 9:58 a.m. ET Tuesday put the tape at Dow 51,990.96 (−0.11%), S&P 7,770.29 (+0.07%), and Nasdaq 27,231.48 (+0.40%) — Nasdaq’s first intraday record since early June. Alphabet was up about 2%; Meta edged higher after Monday’s roughly 11% jump on Muse AI news. Chips were mixed to lower in that snapshot (TXN −1%, AVGO −0.6%, NVDA flat). Label this a mid-morning snapshot, not the close — and not a forecast.
Oil, Hormuz talk, and FedWatch
Oil eased further Tuesday after a senior Iranian official told Reuters Tehran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the U.S. eases pressure. Coverage also noted the Saudi East-West Pipeline had restarted (multiple sources). Brent was about 1.2% lower near $100; the 10-year sat near 4.9%. CME FedWatch showed roughly a 53.1% chance of a ≥25 bp hike in October after this month’s move.
