U.S. stocks fell Monday as oil climbed and Treasury yields jumped, giving back most of last week’s gains, the Associated Press reported (Sept. 28, 2026). As of about 11 a.m. Eastern, the S&P 500 was down about 0.9%, the Dow about 394 points (−0.8%), and the Nasdaq about 1.2%.
The most actively traded Brent crude contract rose about 2.6% to roughly $99.96 a barrel after earlier touching near $101. President Donald Trump said over the weekend he is rejecting an Iranian offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear talks — “I’d like to make a deal, too… But that deal would not be acceptable.” Mediators were still working on a deal, AP noted, which helped oil pare some morning gains.
Yields, airlines, Nvidia offset
The 10-year Treasury yield jumped to about 5.27% from 5.17% late Friday; the 30-year rose to about 5.57% from 5.49%. United Airlines and American Airlines each lost roughly 3%+ on fuel costs. Nvidia rose about 1.9% after approving up to another $150 billion in buybacks (remaining program size ~$235 billion). Gold fell about 3.9%; Newmont sank ~4.2%. Tape — not a trade call. Not investment advice.
