Good Evening Crypto (Abs + Johnny) replayed a viral Raoul Pal clip on today’s Oct. 5 episode — not a fresh live hit from Pal — and the line that still stings XRP Twitter is the performance benchmark: beat Solana’s price, or you’re hurting yourself. The hosts framed the clip as coming from when XRP holders were discouraged, “just two months before XRP went from 50 cents to three dollars,” and said the quote later cleared over a million views.

Video: Good Evening Crypto on YouTube (id hlWcN_8htJo), uploaded Oct. 5, 2026. The Pal segment lands around ~24:40–25:47. Similar remarks were covered by Times Tabloid (Nov. 15, 2024) when the clip was already circulating — the hosts treat it as old relative to the 50¢→$3 run.

What Pal actually said in the clip

Pal vents about constant XRP/Cardano questions (“If I say anything… you bastard I hate you”), then credits Ripple’s business-development team — and still keeps XRP out of his book: it’s “not in my portfolio because it’s underperforming everything else.”

The money quotes, cleaned from the Whisper pass (nursery→mercenary, Salana→Solana, dyno→dino):

“I am a mercenary when it comes to performance… I will not get married to any chain. I want to get married to my P&L so I can unfuck my future.”

To holders of “dino coins”: he’s happy for them — “Just make sure it’s outperforming the price of Solana. If not you’re doing yourself a disservice.”

Hosts then note that plenty of people dumped XRP after that take (the “50 cent stablecoin” shrug) — and then the chart exploded. Their punchline for 2026: patience. That is their read of history, not a Sul Sul price call.

Truth check: this is a replay, not Pal live today

Do not write “Pal said today Solana is outperforming XRP.” Accurate frame: an Oct. 5 GEC episode replayed a historically viral Pal performance benchmark vs Solana. In the clip, Pal framed XRP as underperforming and told holders to beat Solana’s price or they’re doing themselves a disservice. Whether SOL is actually ahead right now is a separate, checkable tape question — and the rails underneath each stack are a different scorecard entirely.

Side-by-side: what each stack has actually shipped (sourced)

Pal’s clip is a price mercenary test. Here’s a factual accomplishments card — no invented milestones. Apples-to-apples where we have matching data; gaps called out.

DeFiLlama DeFi TVL for Solana ~$6.76B as of this desk pull (~2:05 p.m. MT Oct. 5) — a DeFi-protocol measure, not ETF AUM. RLUSD ~$2.4B market cap (Ripple’s Jack McDonald, late Sept.); DefiLlama/Altcoin Buzz (Oct. 2): more RLUSD on Ethereum (~$1.37B era) than XRPL (~$1.0–1.05B). x402 on XRPL: >10M payments (t54 Labs / Akinyele wraps, Oct. 1); Akinyele also cited >11M AI-agent-related txns. DefiLlama DeFi TVL for XRPL ~$45M — not a proxy for payments/CSD rails.

What we are not claiming: No verified public-chain DTCC settlement on XRPL or Solana in this piece (GEC’s own show notes private Hyperledger / Canton for that DTCC path). No Ripple Prime / acquisition scorecard here without a dated primary source on this desk. Roadmaps ≠ live features; ETF flows ≠ price forecasts.

Is Solana ahead of XRP on price right now?

Bottom line on the tape: Solana leads XRP on 7-day, 30-day, and year-to-date as of this check. The last 24 hours are mixed depending on the source boundary — not a clean one-day winner. Past performance is not a forecast. Not investment advice.
